Radio Club, (Fort Worth, Texas). Thanks to Dan Pate, AI5OL for
letting me know about a super cool event taking place on HF
tomorrow.

Thanks to Tom for encouraging me to send this info along to
everyone.

sharing a QSO with them. I launched this program last year and
with the help of amateur radio volunteers in Illinois, we are
introducing ham radio to troop of Scouts ages 12-14 and their
leaders & parents on Monday. We will host multiple stations
and be on-the-air for one hour (details below). Would you please
share this information with others and perhaps set an alarm to
listen and try to give these Scouts a QSO and a smile? Together,
we can make some great memories and perhaps spark further interest
in our hobby!

If you’re able to help, we sincerely thank you! If you are not
available or can’t hear us, we certainly understand and we hope

As always, we won’t have much time to train the kids, leaders
& parents so this will be rather informal. Feel free to ask a
question (age, favorite scout memory, favorite badge, other
hobbies, etc.) and share something about you (location, age when
you became licensed, favorite amateur radio activity, where you
grew up, other hobbies etc.). That said, please help us keep QSOs
brief so they might each talk with multiple operators.

Each Scout will also receive an 8-page info packet about our hobby
which discusses radio waves, radio lingo, logging, RST tables,
safety, emergency calls, how to pursue the Radio Merit Badge, and
more. While this experience certainly won’t qualify them for a
Radio Merit Badge
<https://www.scouting.org/merit-badges/radio/>, our group
will help any interested Scouts in that pursuit.

They will also be cycling through other activities including
beacon hunting and CW decoding. Once we’re off-the-air, we will
run a mock ham radio quiz game where they break into teams and
‘buzz-in’ to answer questions and show what they’ve learned – wish
them luck!
