Western District Net (WDN) — Who / What / Where / When
The Western District Net (WDN) is part of the Amateur Radio National Traffic System (NTS) serving the 13 counties of Western New York. The net provides a structured way for amateur radio operators to send and receive formal written messages during both routine operations and emergencies.
WDN functions as a public service communications network, capable of handling Emergency, Priority, Welfare, and Routine messages. In times of disaster or infrastructure failure, the National Traffic System allows important information to move across the country using amateur radio operators and established traffic nets.
In addition to emergency preparedness, the net provides ongoing training in formal traffic handling procedures, helping operators develop the skills needed to pass accurate written messages efficiently.
